Greek Easter – Easter in Leonidio
If you decide to celebrate your Easter in Greece you visit the area of Leonidio and you will certainly impressed by the traditions of the region and particularly the flying of balloons in night.
On Great Saturday, in the Resurrection revives a unique custom which will not see it in any other region of Greece.
When you heard the first Saturday Christ Resurrection from priest the residents of Leonidio light and release hundreds of colorful balloons from all parishes of local churches and the spectacle complete with tha traditional in all Greece fireworks.
The lit balloons fill the sky and travel slowly by the wind in the glow of fireworks and applause of the people.
The custom of balloon is old and came by local sailors from Asia. For many years almost every household prepares its own traditional big balloon with paper glue and canes several days before Easter.

Leonidio is a mountainous municipality in Arcadia with a population of 6,294 people and situated on the eastern coast of the Peloponnese opening on to the Myrtoon Sea.
