One of the most beautiful and picturesque places in Mykonos island, is the area known as Little Venice. Many photographers and artists go in this unique place because they can see one of the most beautiful sunset. It’s true that the amazing Little Venice has become the muse for many artists. You can see photographs and paintings everywhere.

If you want to visit this area, you can find Little Venice on the east side of the island’s port. It’s easy to understand that you are there because you will see the colorful houses and wooden balkonies which hanging above the sea.

Little Venice started to build at the mid of 18th century and it was an expensive neighborhood from the first days. Only the rich sea captains and merchants had houses there.

During the 17th and 18th century pirating was common in the area and it is believed that these houses were used for the quick loading and unloading of goods from the boats.

Although the charming neighborhood has the name of the famous Venice in Italy, it has no relation with Italy because they build the houses at the years of ottoman empire.

They call it Little Venice from the start of 20th century because the boats could go near the houses in the same way with Italian Venice. The early visitors of the area they described one area like Venice in their books but the area is also known as Alefkandra.

Today many of the houses in this gorgeous area converted and now you can find there the best bars and restaurants of Mykonos island but if you want to see the beautiful sunset you must go there early because many people went there for the same reason.
