Where is Greece?
Greece is part of “western” Europe and member of European Union since 1981.
Greece also belongs to Balkan countries. As you can see at the map, Greece is bordered by Turkey, Bulgaria, FYROM and Albania. Greece is situated on three sides by the Mediterranean Sea.
The capital of Greece, Athens, is approximately 1486 miles from London, 646 miles from Rome, 4934 miles from New York and 9528 miles from Sydney.
Much of Greece is mountainous but the 20% of the country are islands. Greece is divided in 13 regions (called peripheries) and subdivided into a total of fifty-four prefectures (called nomoi). We also have one autonomous area, Agio Oros, which is a place with many monasteries for men. The women can’t visit this area.
